According to the “Act on Special Exceptions to the Education Personnel License Law Concerning the Granting of Regular Teacher’s License for Elementary and Secondary School Teachers (Law on Special Exceptions to the Nursing Care Experience),” those who wish to teach in compulsory education schools (those who wish to obtain an elementary or secondary school teaching license) are required to experience nursing care for 7 days or more.

Considering the importance of teachers engaged in compulsory education to deepen their recognition of the dignity of the individual and the principle of social solidarity, and from the perspective of improving the qualifications of teachers and further enhancing compulsory education, this law requires those who intend to receive a regular elementary or secondary school teaching license to provide care and assistance to the disabled and the elderly, and The purpose of this program is to allow students to experience interacting with the disabled and elderly.

Ehime University provides 3 (2) days of experience at special-needs schools and 4 (5) days at social welfare facilities, etc. out of the 7 days. (* The number in parentheses ( ) is the number of days of experience for the School of Education.
The content of the experience includes assisting with duties required of teachers and staff at special support schools and social welfare facilities (in the case of social welfare facilities, this includes cleaning and laundry as well as caring, assisting and interacting with disabled and elderly persons, etc.). A wide range of experiences, rather than so-called observation tours, are expected, depending on the level of knowledge and skills of the person who will experience caregiving, etc., and the type, nature of work, and conditions of the special support school or social welfare facility where the experience is to take place. The outline is as follows.

1. 1st caregiver experience guidance <Special support school (3-day experience)> (late January – early February)

Target: Faculty of Law and Letters, Faculty of Faculty of Science, Faculty of Agriculture (2nd year and above)

The students eligible for the nursing care experience are third year students and above (except for the Faculty of Education), but the procedure begins with attendance at the guidance held in late January or early February for second year students and above. The host institution will be Ehime Prefectural Special Needs School, and applications will be made to the Ehime Prefectural Board of Education through the university.
For students in the Faculty of Education (sophomores and above), the two day experience will take place at a special support school affiliated with the Faculty of Education, so please attend the guidance for students in the Faculty of Education around April. Attendance at the above guidance is not required.

Application for Care Experience (for Special Support Schools)

• Submission of “Application Form for Care Experience (Special Support School)”
  Submission Period: After the Guidance – Mid-February
  Submission Location: Teaching Education Team, Education Support Division, Education Student Support Department (Student Service Station on the 1st floor of the Library)
• The recipient institutions are special-needs schools (schools for the blind, the deaf, and schools for the disabled) in Ehime Prefecture.
• The Ehime Prefectural Board of Education (Special Support Education Division) will coordinate the acceptance of students.
  The school and the time of the program may not be able to meet the applicant’s request due to circumstances at each special-needs school.

2. implementation of advance guidance for caregiving experience (late March – early April)

Target:Faculty of Law and Letters, Faculty of Science, Faculty of Agriculture (3rd year and above)

Please be sure to attend the pre-application instruction, which will be held in late March or early April. Those who fail to attend will not be allowed to participate in the nursing care experience.
The schedule will be announced at the first caregiver experience guidance <Special Support School (3-day experience)> (late January to early February).
For students in the Faculty of Education (2nd year and above), please participate in the advance guidance for the Faculty of Education students around March.

Target: Faculty of Education (2nd year and above)

Students must earn credits for “Fundamentals and Basics of Special Education (2 credits),” which is offered in the first year, and be sure to attend the pre-service guidance held in late March or early April. The schedule will be announced on the bulletin board, etc. from late January to early February.

(3) Second caregiver experience guidance <Social welfare facilities (4-day experience period)> (late March – early April)

Target: Faculty of Law, Faculty of Literature, Faculty of Science, Faculty of Agriculture (3rd year and above)

Guidance on the four-day caregiving experience at a social welfare facility will be given after the “Pre-guidance for Caregiving Experience,” so please be sure to attend.

Application for caregiving experience (social welfare facilities)

• Accepted facilities will be social welfare facilities in the prefecture.
  If you have a special reason and wish to experience caregiving, etc. at a social welfare facility outside of the prefecture, please contact the Teaching Education Team, Education Support Division, Education and Student Support Department (Student Service Station on the first floor of the library).
• The Ehime Council of Social Welfare will coordinate the acceptance.
• Submit “Application for Care Experience (Social Welfare Facility)” and pay for the experience.

Submission period: Early April each year
Submission location: Will be announced at the caregiver experience guidance.

4. issuance of certificates

After the completion of the caregiving experience, the host institution will prepare and distribute to each student a certificate attesting to the caregiving experience. (Except for the certificate prepared by the special support school attached to the Faculty of Education.)

1. The certificate form must be brought by the experiencer to the host institution.
2. In principle, certificates cannot be reissued, so please keep the issued certificates in a safe place until the time you apply for your teaching license (at the time of graduation).

5. medical certificate

In order to do a caregiving experience, a health certificate must be submitted to the host institution.
The university will prepare the health certificate in a batch, so please make sure to take the health examination in April.
(For those who fail to receive a medical checkup, a medical certificate from a health center or hospital will be required.)

6. insurance coverage

All applicants must be insured against any accidents that may occur during the experience. The university will purchase the insurance in a lump sum, so please purchase the GAKKENSAI liability insurance.

7. measles antibody test

Prospective participants must be confirmed to have measles antibodies.
Please submit documents confirming that you have antibodies or have been immunized against measles to the Teacher Education Team, Educational Support Division.
Details will be provided in the guidance.

8. other notes

• Please consider carefully before applying, as changes in the placement or timing of the training will not be approved.
• During the experience, be sure to follow the host’s instructions. Failure to follow instructions may result in termination at the discretion of the facility.
• Acceptance decisions will be made from late April to June. You will be notified as soon as the decision is made, so please come to the respective academic affairs team to pick up the relevant documents.
